    What is British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM 2024?

    British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM 2024 is an opportunity offered by the British Council in partnership with UK universities for females pursuing postgraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields at selective universities in the UK. The scholarship aims to empower women and encourage them to pursue careers in these critical fields. Selected candidates will receive full tuition fees, living stipend and other benefits.

    British Council in partnership with UK universities is offering this scholarship.

    Who can apply for this scholarship ?

    To be eligible, an applicant must:- 

    • be a female from a specific country participating in the program
    • hold a bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subject
    • demonstrate a need for financial support/socio-economic need*
    • have secured admission to a pre-selected postgraduate program at a participating UK university
    • meet the English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate study in the UK
    • possess a strong interest and proven experience in the chosen STEM field
    • be passionate about the chosen field of study and committed to becoming a role model for future generations of women in STEM
    • demonstrate a plan and a passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from their home country
    • agree to return to their home country for at least two years after their scholarship ends

    *Note:- The British Council will offer institutions guidelines and a standardised framework to evaluate applicants' socio-economic needs during the scholarship application process.

     

    Applicants will not be eligible for the scholarship under the following conditions:-

    • Applicants who hold dual British citizenship.
    • Applicants who are currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study program in the UK from any other source.
    • Applicants who have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary, as well as those who privately funded their UK studies.
    • Applicants who are an employee, a former employee, or a relative(s)* of an employee of the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM–eligible countries.
    • Applicants who are an employee, a former employee, or a relative(s)* of an employee of
      • Her Majesty's Government including, but not limited to, British Embassies/High Commissions
      • Department for Business and Trade (DBT)
      • Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ),
      • Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)
      • Department for International Trade
      • Ministry of Defence and the Home Office

    *Note:- Relatives are defined as parents or stepparents, siblings or stepsiblings, children or stepchildren, spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner (living with the applicant in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).

    • Visa and health coverage fees
    • Refund of an IELTS English language test, if needed

    Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship by following the below-mentioned steps:-

    Step 3: Click on the website link of the preferred participating university under the 'Available scholarships' section. The applicants can directly apply through the participating universities' websites for the scholarship.
    Step 4: Complete the application process as asked by the university.

    What are the selection criteria ?

    The selection of the candidates will be made based on academic merit, managerial experience or community involvement, and personal statement responses.

    Terms and Conditions

    • Applicants must not be receiving financial support or funding for their UK study program from any other source and must not be able to privately fund their studies in the UK.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have not had any international exposure before this scheme.
    • Applicants must not have previously studied at a degree level or higher in the UK, nor have lived there recently. (Note:- Distance learning at a UK university or a UK branch campus abroad will also be considered studying in the UK.)
