IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular and important exam required for study abroad admission. IELTS is of two types – Academic and General Training. Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing part differs depending on which test an applicant takes. The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are given on the same day, without breaks in between the tests. This exam is being taken by international students who are not native English speakers and want to qualify for college admission in the US, UK, Canada, or Europe.

Q. What is IELTS?

A. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests the English proficiency of students who want to get admission colleges abroad. One million tests are conducted globally and it is the world’s most popular English testing system.

Q. What is the IELTS exam format?

A. There are two types of IELTS test format – Academic and General Training. There are two types of  IELTS exam – Academic and General Training. Listening and Speaking syllabus is similar for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing sections differs depending on which test is taken by applicants. The Speaking section can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. The test time is 2 hours 45 minutes.

Q. What is the best IELTS score?

A. A score is given for each test section – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. These individual scores are then averaged to produce an overall band score. The band ranges from 0 to 9 where 0 is the test taken did not attempt the test and 9 is the expert user. From 7 to 9 an applicant has good to excellent command on the English language.
