Our MA in Community Music is designed for those students who have a strong sense of themselves as practitioners. The programme is directly linked to our International Centre for Community Music and as such promotes a global perspective of the field. This MA is designed for those that want to deepen their understanding by exploring practice-led research through a variety of theoretical frameworks.
This course has been developed with the student practitioner in mind. We will enable you to deepen your understanding of community music by exploring practice-led research, which is underpinned by theory. The programme offers students a unique opportunity to become a member of the ICCM, which is located within York St John University.You will reflect deeply on your existing practice on this programme, whilst receiving support from our experts to challenge and test new ideas through conducting research and exploring theoretical frameworks. Your own practice is at the heart of this course, with an independent supervised project alongside two distinctive modules; Community Music Perspectives and Research Ideas and Practices.
