    What is ASEM-DUO Sweden Fellowship Program 2024?

    ASEM-DUO Sweden Fellowship Program 2024 is an initiative of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and is sponsored by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). It offers financial support for exchange semesters between undergraduate and graduate students from Asian countries and Sweden.  Students travel in pairs, with one student from Sweden and one student from an Asian ASEM member country. The program promotes balanced academic exchanges and cultural understanding between Sweden and Asian countries. Selected students can receive a fellowship of up to €4000 for a semester for a single semester.

    Who can apply for this scholarship ?

    To be eligible, an applicant must:-

    • be a citizen of one of the 21 ASEM member countries in Asia including India, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam
    • hold a valid passport
    • be enrolled in an Asian university (host institution) that has a pre-existing exchange agreement with a Swedish university (home institution)

     

    Note:-

    • A Swedish university can nominate an EU student enrolled at its institution to study at its Asian partner university.
    • The Asian university is then obligated to accept this nomination. In reciprocity, the Asian university can nominate a student enrolled at its institution to study at the Swedish university, and the Swedish university must accept this nomination.

    What are the benefits ?

    Selected candidates will receive:

    • In high-income countries: €3,500 per pair (Asian student + Swedish student)
    • In middle/low-income countries: €4,000 for the Asian student and €3,000 for the Swedish student

     

    Note:-

    • The fellowship will be disbursed to the candidate's bank account by the secretariat.
    • The fellowship amount can be used for various expenses, including living expenses, travel expenses, or tuition fees.

    Eligible candidates can apply for the opportunity by following the steps mentioned below:-
    Step 1:

    Step 3: Swedish educational institutions apply on behalf of both institutions and participants in the exchange program. Hence, applicants interested in participating in the exchange program are advised to contact the relevant offices (e.g., International Relations Offices) of their educational institutions to apply.

    Note:- The contact person in the relevant office is responsible for filling out the application form for the student. Students should provide the necessary documents to the contact person. Additional information is available on the 'Latest Scholarship Link'.

    What are the documents required for the ASEM-DUO Sweden Fellowship Program 2024?

    • A duly filled online application form
    • A copy of the applicant's passport (biographical page recommended)
    • Latest academic transcripts including marksheets and certificates
    • A copy of the cooperation agreement or Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between paired institutions OR
    • A declaration of intention to set up a new cooperation agreement, signed by the Head of Swedish Higher Education Institution

    What are the selection criteria ?

    The Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) will establish a Selection Committee to make the final selections. These selections will be announced publicly in June 2024. The Selection Committee will determine the specific criteria for selecting candidates.

    Application Deadline: 21st May 2024 (local Swedish time GMT +1)

    Terms and Conditions

    • Submission of applications will only be accepted through online mode.
    • The program offers a single selection round per year.
    • The minimum exchange duration is one semester.
    • Students interested in exchanging during the Autumn Semester of 2024 (August-January) or the Spring Semester of 2025 (January-August) should apply for the ASEM-DUO Sweden Fellowship Program 2024.
    • In case the student exchange is shorter than granted, the scholarship will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis, and the student will be required to repay the funds.
