    What is Charles Wallace India Trust Short Research Grants 2024-25?

    Charles Wallace India Trust Short Research Grants 2024-25 is an opportunity offered by the Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT)* in support of the British Council India, to Indian academic research scholars and professionals working in the arts or heritage conservation sectors. The selected scholars will receive a financial grant of £1,750 to each researcher, towards the costs of their stay in the UK. 

    *Established in 1981, Charles Wallace India Trust is an entity that provides financial grants to Indian nationals, living in India and studying or working in the arts, heritage conservation, or humanities.

    Who is offering this scholarship ?

    Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) with the support of British Council India is offering this grant. 

    Who can apply for this scholarship ?

    To be eligible, an applicant must:-

    • be an Indian citizen residing in India
    • be between 25 and 45 years of age
    • have completed postgraduate studies
    • have 4 or more years of research or experience in their specialisation, OR
    • be in the final stages of the doctorate studies
    • be proficient in the English language
    • have not received a CWIT grant within the previous 5 years

    What are the benefits ?

    A total of 15-20 scholars will receive £1,750 (one-time) towards the costs of their stay in the UK. The funding is usually enough for about three weeks.

     

    Note:-

    • The grants are payable in the UK and do not cover international travel costs.
    • The grantees will also be expected to cover their travel costs within India and are required to obtain the appropriate level of insurance coverage for travel and medical emergencies.
    • Applicants planning to stay in the UK for more than three weeks are required to supplement the CWIT grant with other funding e.g. a grant from the Indian Council for Historical Research.
    • CWIT offers limited financial support to Indian doctoral students nearing completion at UK universities who plan to return to India. These small grants (£700) aim to bridge funding gaps but require applicants to demonstrate additional income or financial backing from other sources.

    Eligible applicants can apply for the grant by following the below-mentioned steps:-

    Step 3: Navigate to the 'Apply Now' button under the 'How to Apply' section and click on it.
    Step 4: Fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents, and submit.

    What are the documents required for the Charles Wallace India Trust Short Research Grants 2024-25?

    • A brief Curriculum Vitae (CV) including email and postal address (in pdf, docx, or doc of maximum size 10MB)
    • A photograph of the applicant (in jpeg, jpg, or png format)
    • Emergency name and contact details in India
    • A clear statement of what the applicant wants to achieve in the UK, and for academic researchers what sources the applicant wishes to consult- be as specific as possible (in not more than 2-3 pages)
    • An indication of how much time the applicant wishes to spend in the UK- remember the CWIT grant is reckoned to be sufficient for about 3 weeks
    • Names and addresses of two referees who know the applicant's work well and who have agreed to be referees
    • An assurance that the applicants are within the eligible age range and haven’t received a CWIT grant within the last 5 years
