Inlaks Research and Travel Grants 2025

Inlaks Research and Travel Grant 2025 is an opportunity provided by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation for Ph.D. students in Humanities and Social Sciences at Indian universities. It funds short-term visits abroad for research purposes, including collecting materials, utilising facilities, and consulting with experts. Selected candidates will receive a travel grant of USD 1,000 (approx. ₹83,557.20) with additional benefits to help them cover their research work.

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation is offering this opportunity.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

• be an Indian citizen with a valid passport
• be currently residing in India
• be born on or after 1st January 1990
• possess a first-class degree in both a bachelor's (honours) and a master's degree from a recognised institution/university
• be a registered Ph.D. candidate at a recognised Indian university pursuing a Ph.D. in Humanities or Social Sciences only

Note:- Applicants must be registered Ph.D. students at an accredited Indian university for a minimum of two and a maximum of three years at the time of application.

The award provides financial support for up to 3 months to cover research activities, including:-

• Travel allowance: Reimbursable for reasonable expenses, up to USD 1,000 (approx. ₹83,557.20)
• Maintenance expenses: Up to USD 2,000 (approx. ₹1,67,155) per month
• Research materials: Reimbursable for actual costs of purchasing materials and copying relevant literature, up to USD 500  (approx. ₹41,788.75)
• Health allowance: Reimbursable for actual health expenses, up to USD 500 (approx. ₹41,788.75)

Eligible applicants can follow the below steps to apply:-

Step 3: Navigate to 'DOWNLOAD APPLICATION FORM HERE' and click on it to download the application form.
Step 4: Send the duly filled application form with all the necessary documents through email at: ‘ichchaporia@inlaksfoundation.org’ with the subject line mentioned as: ‘Application for IRTG-2024’.

• A duly filled application form
• Passport copy of the first and last page (PDF format)
• Two reference letters
• A written work sample on the topic of research (3000-5000 words)
• Evidence of positive communication and agreement on the agreements made with the foreign resource person or institution
• Written evidence from the Ph.D. supervisor highlighting –
  • The applicant’s progress, focus, and ability in the work done under supervision
  • The applicant needs to go abroad
  • Thatthe  funds for the applicant’s needs cannot be obtained from any other source

Note:- The sample written work should preferably be a draft chapter (with full annotation and documentation) as part of the PhD thesis with details about the reading list, surveys or any other work done towards the thesis.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the submitted application materials. Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed in person or via Zoom by a panel of experts in early September 2025.

• The awarded grant must be used within nine months of the award date.
• Students are required to submit proof of major expenditures, such as library fees, lodging, and book purchases.
• All materials (including literature, copies, and instruments) collected during the research visit will become the property of the institution for the benefit of future scholars. These materials should acknowledge the support received from the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant.
• Applicants can apply for either the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant or the Inlaks-Kings India Institute Studentship in a single year, but not both.
