Macquarie University invites applications for International Research Training Program Scholarship (iRTP) and International Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (iMQRES) 2020-21. These scholarships are for supporting international higher degree research candidates interested in pursuing MPhil, MRes and PhD courses. Students selected for the scholarship can avail multiple benefits including tuition fee coverage, annual stipend and other benefits.

Who can apply for this scholarship ?
To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must-
- Be an international citizen from countries other than Australia and New Zealand
- Not be an Australian permanent resident
- Have already completed or expected to complete a research Masters degree in 2020
- Enrol as a full-time student at the Macquarie University
- Be willing to undertake a Masters of Philosophy or Doctorate in 2021
- Intend to reside in Sydney, Australia during the award tenure, unless on approved overseas research leave
What are the benefits ?
Candidates selected for the iRTP scholarship will receive:
- Tuition fee coverage for a maximum of 3 years
- An annual stipend of AUD 28,092
- Travel concession (applied to local transport OPAL Card)
Candidates selected iMQRES will receive:
- Tuition fee coverage for a maximum of 3 years
- An annual stipend of AUD 28,092

Follow the below steps to apply for this scholarship-
Step 1: Visit this page and read application instructions.
Step 2: Check the entry requirements, find a supervisor and prepare a research proposal.
Step 3: Visit the online application portal and register a new user.
Step 4: Fill in the application form and upload the required documents.
Step 5: Click on 'Submit' to receive an acknowledgement of the application on the registered email.
Note: Candidates can also track the progress of application by logging in the application portal.
What are the documents required for the Macquarie University iRTP/iMQRES Scholarship 2020-21?
- Copy of Passport (or Birth Certificate)
- Current Australian visa (for Permanent Residents or Humanitarian Visa holders)
- English proficiency test result scorecard (if required)
- Research proposal
- Curriculum Vitae
- University prizes awarded
- Scholarships awarded
- Publications (published and accepted for publication)
- Statement of exclusion from university course if applicable
If transferring from another Australian institution, the applicant must provide details of:
- Enrolment periods
- Study mode
- Scholarships received
- Total EFTSL consumed
Note: If any of these documents are not in English you must provide certified English translations.
What are the selection criteria ?
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of the following-
- Academic merit
- Relevant research output
- Experience
- Potential
After the submission of application, it will be reviewed for completeness by the University HDR Office. It will then be sent to the relevant faculty for further administrative assessment.
What are the important dates ?
- Applications open: 01st May 2021
- Application deadline: 31st July 2021
Terms and Conditions
- Candidates applying for iRTP will be automatically considered for iMQRES in the same round.
- The scholarship will not be offered to candidates who are receiving another equivalent or major award or scholarship.
- Candidates who have already completed a higher degree in research at the same or higher level will not be eligible for the scholarship.
- Applicants providing false or misleading information to the university will be disqualified for the scholarship.
- Applicants may be in receipt of additional funds for field-work or equipment not covered by the scholarship.
