Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship 2026

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship 2026 is an opportunity provided by the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation to first and second year PhD students. This scholarship aims to bring together passionate individuals with a goal of making the world a better place to live in. The selected students will receive an annual allowance of up to $50,000 (₹44,34,080 approx.) and other benefits.

The  Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation is offering this opportunity.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

• be international students studying at a Canadian university
• be in the first or second year of a doctoral programme
• be pursuing their doctoral research focussed on one of the following:
  • Human Rights and Dignity
  • Responsible Citizenship
  • Canada and the World
  • People and their Natural Environment

The selected candidates will receive:

• an annual stipend of up to $50,000 (₹44,34,080 approx.) for tuition and living expenses
• an annual allowance of up to $20,000 (₹17,71,750 approx.) for research, networking, and travel

(Note:- Each scholar is assured an annual stipend of $25,000 and an annual allowance of $20,000.)

Answer: The scholarship supports the doctoral studies of an individual for a period of three years.

• An eligible doctoral program must be research-focused (such as a PhD or JD) and should culminate in a thesis, dissertation, or other scholarly work. Professional doctorate programs are not eligible. However, joint programs combining a professional and a research degree (for example, JD/PhD or MBA/PhD) may qualify if they include a substantial research component.
• Scholars may defer their scholarship for a period of up to one year to accommodate parental, medical, personal, or professional leave. The scholarship payments shall stop until the scholar rejoins full time to pursue the doctoral studies. 
• Scholars are permitted to engage in part-time employment of up to 20 hours per week while retaining full scholarship benefits. Eligible positions include university or campus-based roles such as research assistant, teaching assistant, lecturer, or other part-time academic appointments.
