    What is RGS-IBG Postgraduate Research Awards 2022?

    RGS-IBG Postgraduate Research Awards 2022 is an initiative of the Royal Geographical Society with IBG (a learned society and professional body for geography based in the United Kingdom) for Ph.D. students. The awards aim to help students to establish themselves in their particular field. It also supports the students to undertake research and fieldwork. The recipients will be awarded a grant of GBP 2,000.

    The Royal Geographical Society with IBG is offering this award. It is funded by donors like Albert Reckitt Charitable Trust, Geographical Club, Dudley Stamp Memorial Fund, Walters Kundert Charitable Trust and RGS-IBG Hong Kong branch.

    Who can apply for this scholarship ?

    To be eligible, applicants must - 

    • Be currently registered at a UK Higher Education Institution
    • Be undertaking research and fieldwork

     

    Note - Preference is given to students who do not receive full funding from a research council, university or comparable levels of support from other sources for fieldwork and data collection.

    The selected students will be awarded a grant of GBP 2,000.

    What are the documents required for the RGS-IBG Postgraduate Research Awards 2022?

    • Two referee statements (if required)

     

    Note - One referee should be the supervisor.

    What are the selection criteria ?

    The applications are assessed by an external panel of expert reviewers. The reviewers will shortlist the candidates based on the following aspects of an application - 

    • The project’s contribution to the advancement of geographical knowledge.
    • The degree to which the project is innovative and original.
    • The feasibility of the project within the time frame and budget suggested.
    • Applicant's experience, skills and qualifications to complete the programme of work within the time and budget proposed.
    • Evidence of sufficient planning in terms of health and safety, ethical clearance and permissions.
    • Applicant's awareness for the relevant environmental, social and cultural responsibilities and impacts of the project.
    • Justification of resources and the degree to which the budget is reasonable, appropriate and sufficiently detailed.

    • Applications will be jeopardised if referee statements are not received on time as references form a critical part of the judging process.
    • The referees have to send a signed reference statement on letter headed paper to the Grants Officer through email at - grants@rgs.org by the deadline.
