Terra Foundation for American Art, USA invites applications for Terra Summer Residency Fellowships Giverny, France 2021 from visual artists and doctoral scholars of American art and visual culture. This fellowship aims to encourage independent work while providing seminars and mentoring by senior scholars and artists to foster reflection and debate. Selected fellows will get a stipend of USD 5,000 and other benefits.

Who can apply for this scholarship ?
To be eligible, an applicant must:
- Be a visual artist with a master’s degree or its equivalent, OR
- Be a doctoral candidate researching American art and visual culture or its role in a context of international artistic exchange prior to 1980
What are the benefits ?
- A USD 5,000 stipend
- An additional USD 300 for the purchase of materials to the artists
- A travel contribution up to USD 500 for individuals travelling from Europe, up to USD 1,200 for individuals travelling from the US and Canada, and up to USD 1,500 for individuals travelling from other destinations
- Lodging in the Terra Foundation residences and daily lunches

What are the selection criteria ?
Applicants will be evaluated by an independent jury on intellectual and creative excellence, scholarly and artistic accomplishments, and ability to contribute in a collegial and interdisciplinary community.

Terms and Conditions
- Applicants must be recommended by their dissertation advisor or professor or previous art-school supervisor. Each professor may recommend a maximum of two candidates each year.
- As the program’s working language of the program is English, all applicants are expected to be fluent; knowledge of French is an asset but not required.
- Preference is given to applicants who have completed their degree within the past five years (applicable for Visual Artists).
- Doctoral candidates at the dissertation-writing stage are encouraged to apply.
