    What is University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship 2024?

    University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship 2024 is a joint initiative of the British Council and the University of St Andrews, aimed to provide financial assistance to students from Ghana, Greece, India, Malaysia, Mexico, and Thailand who wish to pursue one-year postgraduate Master's programs (M.Sc., M.Res., or M.Litt.) at the university. The scheme aims to recognise students who aspire to become leaders in their future careers, possess wide-ranging interests outside their studies, and have the desire to broaden their personal and academic experience at the university.

    An award of up to £10,000 for a year of study will be granted to selected students.

    Who is offering this scholarship ?

    The scholarship is a joint initiative of the British Council and the University of St Andrews.

    Who can apply for this scholarship ?

    To be eligible, an applicant must:-

    • be a citizen of India, Ghana, Greece, Malaysia, Mexico, or Thailand
    • have applied for a taught postgraduate Master's programme: MLitt, MRes, MSc
    • meet the English language requirement of their course or have started a 10-week pre-sessional English course by 30 June 2024


    Note:-

    • Graduate diplomas and other programs except taught postgraduate Master's are not eligible.
    • Online, distance learning or courses delivered at a Scottish university campus overseas are not eligible.

    What are the benefits ?

    Selected candidates will receive awards based on their country (nationality), as follows:

    • India: One scholarship of £10,000 for any Master's programme
    • Greece: One scholarship of £10,000 for any Master's programme
    • Mexico: One scholarship of £20,000 for any Master's programme
    • Malaysia: One scholarship of £10,000 for any Master's programme
    • Ghana: One scholarship of £20,000 for a Master's programme in the following climate change-focused degrees:
      • M.Sc. in Marine Ecosystem Management
      • M.Sc. in Geochemistry
      • M.Sc. in Strategic Earth Resources
      • M.Sc. in Sustainable Development
      • M.Sc. in Energy Policy and Finance
    • Thailand: Two scholarships of £10,000 for any Master's programme and one scholarship of £20,000 for a Master's program in the following climate change-focused degrees:
      • M.Sc. in Marine Ecosystem Management
      • M.Sc. in Geochemistry
      • M.Sc. in Strategic Earth Resources
      • M.Sc. in Sustainable Development
      • M.Sc. in Energy Policy and Finance

     

    Note: Students must have applied for a taught postgraduate master course: M.Litt., M.Res., MSc. to avail the above benefits.

    Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship by following the steps mentioned below:-

    Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.
    Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note: If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
    Step 3: Navigate to the 'How to apply' section and click on the 'My Application'.
    Step 4: Log in using the registered username and password.
    Step 5: Click on the 'Scholarships and funding', found under 'Useful links'. Click on the 'View the scholarships and funding catalogue'.
    Step 6: Search for the University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship in the Filter box and proceed to apply for the scholarship.

    Note: Applicants can correct errors in their responses and reapply for the fund.

    What are the documents required for the University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship 2024?

    • A personal statement 
    • Sample of academic written work (if applicable)
    • Proof of English Language Proficiency (Note: Required only if English is not applicant's first language)
    • Two original signed academic references (Note: If unable to provide two academic references, upload one employment reference and one academic reference)
    • Academic transcripts, including degrees and certificates explaining the grading scale and Honours classification at the awarding institution (Note: Kindly upload certified copies with official English translations, if applicable. Do not send original transcripts or degree certificates as they cannot be returned.)
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume, including applicant's details with a history of education and employment

    What are the selection criteria ?

    Applicants are selected based on eligibility criteria, academic merit, and the strength of their personal statement responses to the following questions:

    • Explain how the applicants envision their growth and contributions during the scholarship experience at St Andrews. Describe how their unique skills and perspectives might enrich the university community.
    • Highlight specific academic achievements (e.g., awards, projects, research experience, or exceptional course performance) that demonstrate the applicant's potential as a strong scholarship recipient.

    • The selection committee seeks academically outstanding students with exceptional talent.
    • Successful scholars will have the opportunity to act as university ambassadors.
    • Recipients of the scholarship are encouraged to engage with the British Council and our Student Ambassadors Scheme. Work through the scheme can be diverse and may involve outreach activities, supporting Admissions staff with events for prospective students and offer holders, and sharing your unique experience as a St Andrews student.
