    What is University of Sydney The Kathleen and Allison Short Scholarship 2022?

    University of Sydney The Kathleen and Allison Short Scholarship 2022 is an initiative by the University of Sydney, Australia for students studying piano, violin, viola or cello. The aim of this scholarship is to support financially disadvantaged students to study piano, violin, viola or cello at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The selected scholars will receive a scholarship determined by the dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. It will be stipulated in the scholarship offer letter to the successful recipient(s).

    This scholarship was established in 2004 from a donation by Allison Louise Larsen.

    Who can apply for this scholarship ?

    To be eligible, an applicant must - 

    • Be enrolled or have an unconditional offer to study  full-time coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
    • Come from a financially disadvantaged background
    • Be studying piano, violin, viola or cello

    The selected scholars will receive a scholarship determined by the dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. It will be stipulated in the scholarship offer letter to the successful recipient(s).

    What are the selection criteria ?

    The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of a personal statement, and/or demonstrated evidence of disadvantage. For a postgraduate research applicant, the scholarship will also be awarded on the basis of research achievements and potential.

    Terms and Conditions

    • The scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
      • withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol
      • commences part-time study without prior approval of the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
      • does not maintain satisfactory academic performance
      • is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or
      • does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
    • Once a scholarship has been terminated, it cannot be reinstated unless due to a University error.
    • Applicants will be required to attend an interview.
    • All scholarship offers are conditional upon evidence that the student meets the selection criteria.
    • This scholarship cannot be deferred.
    • Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any scholarship funds paid to the scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
    • The annual payment will be made in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester for coursework students.
    • For a postgraduate research student, the value of the scholarship will be paid as a stipend on a fortnightly basis.
    • Deferral of the scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the relevant Associate Dean and it is not transferable to another honours program, faculty/University school, or University.
    • The scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
    • To continue receipt of the scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum WAM of 65 each semester.
    • Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.
