GRE Exam Dates – About GRE Exam
Before heading on to know about the GRE exam dates, you should have a preliminary understanding of the examination. GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a standardized test conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Services). The GRE scores are accepted by most of the top graduate level schools worldwide for the Masters degree programme. It basically comprises two test formats – GRE General and GRE Subject test. While a GRE general test covers topics like verbal reasoning, analytical writing, and quantitative reasoning, the GRE subject test involves topics specific to the subject in which you want to pursue postgraduation.

GRE Subject Test is an achievement test that measures the knowledge of the students in a particular field of study. GRE Exam Dates – Registration Checklist
Whether you want to appear for a computer-delivered test or paper-delivered test, you can get to know the GRE exam date only when you have submitted your application. The registration checklist given here under aims to help you to embark on a journey from starting up the GRE application to obtaining a postgraduate degree place in a college or university of your choice abroad. The following points should be adhered to while starting up the GRE application:

- Decide which exam to take up – Paper-delivered or Computer-delivered.

GRE Exam Dates – Computer-Delivered Test Dates
The computer-delivered GRE General Test is offered year-round at Prometric test centres, and also on specific dates at additional testing locations outside of the Prometric test centre network. The exam appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first served basis at the time of registration.
Applicants must make sure that their scores are reported in time for their application deadlines while selecting a test date. For computer-delivered tests, score reports are sent to the designated score recipients approximately 1015 days after your test date. The candidates can appear for the computer-delivered GRE General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period. This applies even if the applicant has canceled their scores on a test that has been taken previously.
Follow the steps below to find out test centres and GRE exam dates to appear for the computer-delivered GRE exam:
- Firstly, click here to visit the web page of ETS to register for 2019 GRE Exam Dates
- Complete the following information – “Select a test” and “Find the test centre”. The applicants can find GRE exam dates within 2 months period.
- For example, if you are an Indian applicant living in Delhi/NCR then you can select “Delhi/NCR” in location and if you wish to appear for the exam in the current month like Mar-April 2019, select the period between March and April. From the drop-down list, the applicant can select the GRE exam type (general or subject). Refer to the image below for better understanding.
- You can choose one of the dates available as shown on the screen and then click on “Show Centers” to look for different centres available to apply for the test. In the example given above, 6 centers were found when 20th March 2019 in Delhi/NCR was selected. Choose the options according to your suitability and register for the exam for the particular date and centre. Once you click to register, you will be directed to ETS account creation page.
- Follow the steps below to create the ETS account:
- Visit the web page here and select the ETS account button on the upper right corner of the page.
- On the ETS account login page, click the Create an Account button.
- Creating the account will allow you to register for the GRE General Test, apply for testing accommodations, view, change or cancel the registration, purchase test prep materials, viewing scores, access free GRE diagnostic test etc.
- Provide information on name, date of birth, gender, email ID, address, phone number, communication preferences etc.
- Create a password and a security question and proceed to the next step.
- Submit the form to create the account.

GRE Exam Dates – Paper-Delivered Test Dates
Paper-delivered testing for the GRE General Test and the GRE Subject Tests is available up to three times per year. To check out for 201819 test centers and dates, the candidates can refer to the table below or the ETS website. All dates shown in the table are in the DD/MM/YY format. All deadlines given below are the registration receipt dates at ETS. The table only highlights the GRE exam dates of paper delivered test for locations outside the US.

The primary ID required for attending the GRE exam in the chosen centre for Indian applicants is a valid passport. The GRE fee is charged in US dollars and is subject to change without notice. For Indian applicants, USD 205 is the GRE fees for online registration. The applicants can send their GRE scores to four institutions free of charge but to send the report to more than 4 institutions, there is an additional charge of USD 27 per score report.
GRE Exam Dates – GRE Test Day Guidelines
- Report to the test center at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled testing time.
- Food, beverages, and tobacco are not allowed in the testing room.
- The test administrator will assign you a seat.
- The candidates are required to remain in the test center building. It is applicants responsibility to ask the test administrator for permission to leave the test center vicinity for some purpose.
- The testing session will be actively monitored by the test center staff.
- Before the test, you will receive instructions from test center staff regarding where to store personal items.
- If you requested and received an authorization voucher from ETS, you must take it with you to the test center.
- The candidates who opt for computer-delivered GRE test have to plan to be at the test centre for up to four and a half hours and will be required to write and sign a confidentiality statement at the test centre before beginning the exam.
GRE Exam Dates – GRE Scores
The score report contains the following information:
- Contact details
- Date of birth, gender, intended a graduate major
- GRE exam dates
- GRE test score and associate percentile ranks
- Authorized score recipients and cumulative record of scores reported within the last five years
GRE General Test scores are reported in the following manner:

The test fee entitles you to request the scores to be sent to up to four graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors. The applicant can decide which test score to send to the institution by choosing the option of Score Select. For the computer-driven GRE, the candidates can designate free score recipients at the test center. For the paper delivered GRE General Test, the candidates will be asked to designate free score recipients during registration. The GRE score is valid for next 5 years from the GRE exam date of the applicant.

GRE Exam Dates – Exam Reschedule and Cancellation
- The students can reschedule their GRE exam date online. They need to reschedule the GRE General Test no later than four days before their appointment or else the test fee will get forfeited.
- The applicants outside the US can reschedule their test via their ETS account or by phone. If rescheduling by phone, the applicants must provide an appointment confirmation number and the full name used to make the appointment.
- Cancel your GRE General Test registration no later than four days prior to your GRE exam date and you will receive a refund equivalent to half of the original test fee.
