French Ministry Scholarships

French government awards various scholarships to international students. 25% of the scholarships are directly financed by the Ministry in the framework of the Eiffel Excellence programme (Masters and PhD studies) or major programmes (for foreign students who have graduated from French high schools abroad)). The majority of the scholarships are awarded by the Cooperation and Cultural Action Departments (SCACs) in French Embassies and consulates abroad. Applicants should directly contact the SCAC of French embassy or consulate in their country of origin to obtain comprehensive scholarship information. The scholarship is categorised into the following: study scholarships, training grants and high-level science scholarships.

Merit Scholarships – Eiffel Excellence Programme

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher educational institutions to attract top foreign students to enroll in their masters and PhD programmes. It gives opportunity to the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors and encourages applicants of up to 30 years age from developing countries at masters level, and applicants of up to 35 years age from developing and industrialized countries at PhD level.

The programme is being run since 15 years and gets 1500 applications per year. Masters degree holders applying for this programme should not be more than 30 years of age on the day the selection committee meets him/her while doctorate students should not be of more than 35 years of age. Applications are put forward by the French host institutions. Masters students get a monthly stipend of EUR 1181 and doctoral students receive a stipend of EUR 1400 per month.

Emile Boutmy Scholarship

Emile Boutmy Scholarship is awarded to top students whose candidature match the admissions criteria of Sciences Po. Sciences Po ranks amongst the finest institutions in the fields of humanities and social sciences in the world. The eligible students must be first time applicants, from a non-European Union state, whose household does not file taxes within the European Union and must be admitted to Undergraduate or Master’s programme. This scholarship is awarded based on merit and according to the type of profile sought for this programme. Social criteria are also taken into account.

For pursuing Bachelors programme at Sciences Po, a tuition grant of EUR 7,300 per year for three years along with part of the cost of living of EUR 5,000 per year is available. For Masters programme, a grant of EUR 10,000 per year to cover tuition fees and a tuition grant of EUR 5,000 per year is available. The application is filled by December of a given year.

Charpak Scholarship

It offers international scholarships at Bachelors and Masters level of studies in France. Charpak masters programme is for 1-2 years in all fields of studies. There are two types of Charpak Masters scholarship: Charpak AME scholarship, Charpak BCS and a travel grant.

An applicant should be an Indian national and residing in India. Students must be currently enrolled at an Indian Institution of higher learning or a be a young professional employed in a company for a maximum of 3 years at the time of application and be of maximum 30 years of age at the time of application. The scholarship application will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, consistency and quality of your statement of purpose.

French Scholarships for Indian students – Tuition fees & Cost of Living

Tuition rates are low in public institutions because the French government subsidizes higher education. The French government will continue to pay most of the cost of your degree programme in a public institution of higher education. Tuition charges for academic year 2019-20 for EU students: EUR 170 per year at the Bachelors level, EUR 243 per year at the master’s level, EUR 601 per year in a School of Engineering and EUR 380 per year at the Doctoral level. For Non-EU students, tuition fee is EUR 2,770 per year at the Bachelors level and EUR 3,770 per year at the masters level.

Cost of living includes accommodation costs from EUR 120 to EUR 380 per month, food costs from EUR 130 to EUR 150 at university restaurants per month, health care costs from EUR 380 to EUR 750 per month and miscellaneous items such as transport & leisure cost EUR 100 per month.

French Scholarships for Indian students – Visa

To study in France, you need to obtain a student visa. The visa pricing for Non-EU country student is EUR 99. Adhere to the following conditions to obtain the visa:

  • He/she must be over 18 years of age
  • They must have already chosen training course or studies to pursue in France
