GMAT Score -GMAT Score Reports

There are many types of score reports that a candidate receives after appearing for the exam. The applicant will see four of their five scores right after the exam: the quantitative, verbal, integrated reasoning and total scores (score based on the quantitative and verbal sections). Also, the students should keep the following in mind while checking the score preview:

• What are the minimum scores that can be reported? Youll be able to see the unofficial score that includes marking of integrated reasoning, quantitative, verbal and also, total score. The candidates get to see the scores for only 2 minutes and within that time frame, they have to either accept or cancel them. If applicants do not make a decision, their scores will automatically be canceled.
• Do you have time to retake the GMAT exam if you cancel your scores? You may attempt the exam for up to five times a year, but only once during any 16-day period. Before considering the cancellation of the score, you need to make sure that you have time to schedule and retake the exam and have your score report delivered to your chosen business schools for MBA programs.

Unofficial score report – If you accept your GMAT score, you will receive an unofficial score report prior to leaving the test centre. The applicants can determine whether:

• They are competitive enough for the schools they are applying to.
• They want to re-appear for the exam.

3 weeks following the exam date -The applicants will receive the official scores via an email. The email will include instructions for online access to the scores. The report will include your Analytical Writing Assessment score, GMAT percentile rankings, the personal data, and scores from other GMAT exams that you might have taken within the past five years.

The official report is valid for five years, which gives applicants the flexibility to retake the exam if necessary and send their GMAT score to b-schools when they are ready. In addition to the GMAT scores, the official score report includes:

• Digital photograph of the candidate
• Background information such as telephone number, undergraduate institution, Grade Point Average (GPA), and intended graduate study
• Percentile rank

Official GMAT score report – Before giving the exam, the applicants select up to five schools to receive their GMATScore Reports. This is included in the original registration. One can select additional schools to receive his/her score online after paying a stipulated amount.

• The GMAT scores are valid for five years, and are available for reporting for up to 10 years.
• The official report includes copies of essays and digital photograph which are released only at applicants specific request – either when they take the test or when additional score report is requested.
• The applicants cancancel their scoreson test day following the score preview, or for a fee, within 72 hours of the scheduled exam time.

GMAT Score – Sending Scores to Colleges

GMAC will send the official score report to up to 5 business schools that the applicant has selected at the test centre prior to the start of the GMATexam. GMAC sends them electronically or by mail, depending on the school preference of the candidate. This service is covered under the GMATexam registration fee paid by the applicants. Once the applicants have made their selections, it can’t be changed on a later date.

GMAT Score – GMAT Percentile Rank

The applicants need to have specific skill sets to score well in each section of GMAT. These skills are calculated as the following score types.

Total Score:

• GMAT total score is composed of the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the exam.
• What GMAT measures:The GMAT exam measures the test taker’s ability to assess higher-order reasoning skills (verbal, quantitative, analytical writing and integrated reasoning) and in predicting their success in the first year of graduate management education.
• Score range:The total GMAT score ranges from 200 to 800. Two-thirds of test takers score between 400 and 600. GMAT scores also include a percentile ranking. A ranking of 75% means that 25% of the test takers performed well or better than the candidate and 75% test takers did not do so well.
• The applicants are able to view unofficial scores immediately after completing the exam and then, have an opportunity to accept or cancel those scores. A self-canceled score gets recorded as “C” on future score reports sent to them. If GMAT scores are accepted at that point, then the candidates are given a print out of unofficial scores.

Integrated reasoning:

• Measure:Scores range from 1-8 in single-digit intervals.

• Score Range:Total GMAT score range from 200 to 800. Two-thirds of the test takers score between 400 and 600.

Verbal reasoning:

• In this section, the test taker’s ability to read and comprehend written materials, reason and evaluate arguments and correct the written materials is checked.

• Verbal scores range from 0 to 60. Scores below nine and above 44 for the Verbal section are rare.

Quantitative reasoning

• The test taker’s ability to reason quantitatively, solve quantitative problems, and interpret graphic data.
• Quantitative scores range from 0 to 60. Scores below 7 and above 50 for the quantitative section are rare.

Analytical writing assessment

• In this section, the test taker’s ability to formulate an appropriate and constructive critique of a specific conclusion is evaluated.
• Average scores range from 0 to 6 in half point intervals. AWA scores are computed separately from the scores for the multiple-choice sections of the exam.

GMAT Score – Cancelling and Retaking GMAT exam

The GMAT applicants can retake the GMAT exam in the following manner:

• Once every 16 calendar days
• No more than five times in a 12-month period
• No more than eight times total

Most of the candidates who score below 600 are likely to take the exam again as it is not considered up to the mark. The data gathered by GMAC says that if the candidates first exam score is below 500, they are likely to score more in the next exam. If a candidates first exam score is between 600-640, he/she is more likely to see a moderate increase in his/her score the next time he/she takes the exam.

Cancelling GMAT Score -Applicants are given 2 minutes to decide whether to cancel or accept their GMAT score. If the time expires before they make any decision, their score is automatically cancelled One needs tomake this decision before they sit down to take the GMAT exam. Setting a minimum targetscore helps one make a sound decision when the choice is presented to them. Applicants should know the policies and preferences of the target management schools. Some schools like to see all the scores from all appearances in the GMAT exam by the candidate, while other schools are fine to only see the best scores.
