Getty Pre and Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026-27

The Getty Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026-27 is an opportunity provided by the Getty Research Institute (GRI) to established researchers and professionals pursuing or have secured a doctoral degree. Selected Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellows receive stipends of USD 30,000 and USD 35,000, respectively.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

• have advanced to candidacy in a doctoral program by the application deadline
• have received a doctoral degree within the past 5 years (after September 1, 2022)

Note:- Applicants who earned their PhD over five years ago (prior to September 1, 2022) should submit an application for a Scholar Grant at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.

The selected candidates will receive:-

• A stipend of USD 30,000 for Predoctoral Fellows or USD 35,000 for Postdoctoral Fellows
• Residency for nine months from late September to late June at the Getty Center (Predoctoral) or Getty Center/Getty Villa (Postdoctoral)
• A workstation at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa
• A travel stipend for relocation to Los Angeles
• An apartment in the Getty scholar housing complex
• Access to available healthcare options

• One writing sample of no more than 25 double-spaced pages
• Confirmation Letter from the applicant’s academic institution
• 2 confidential letters of recommendation

Applications are assessed based on the overall quality and alignment with the annual theme, the project's contribution to advancing the applicant’s field, the applicant's past achievements, and their qualifications to carry out the project. This evaluation ensures that the most promising and qualified candidates are selected.
