The Trinity Research Doctorate Award 2026–27 is an opportunity provided by Trinity College Dublin to doctoral applicants at the university. These awards aim to strengthen Trinity’s research community while contributing to local and global social and sustainability goals. A total of 12 new awards will be offered across two categories—PI-led and Joint Student-PI. Who can apply for this scholarship ?
To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- belong to any discipline within Trinity College Dublin
- apply under one of two categories:
- Category 1 (PI-led): Open to early-career researchers appointed during or after the 2020–21 academic year who are eligible PhD supervisors under Calendar regulations.
- Category 2 (Joint Student+PI): Open to student–supervisor pairs, where the student has applied for a full-time PhD starting in 2026–27, and the supervisor is eligible to supervise doctoral students under university regulations

What are the documents required for the Trinity Research Doctorate Awards 2026-27?

What are the selection criteria ?
The scholars are selected based on the evaluation of their applications as follows:
- 25 marks: Research design and methodology.
- 35 marks: Research impact and innovation.
- 20 marks: Impact on supervisor’s (PI) research trajectory.
- 20 marks: Impact on the student’s research trajectory.

Terms and Conditions
- Awards cannot fund existing PhD students; they must fund new entrants (September 2026 or March 2027).
