Study in Singapore – A tiny country, possessing minimal natural resources, has risen up the ranks to become one of the most sought-after study-abroad destinations, with thousands of international students from around the world choosing to study in Singapore. A strong education system has been the foundation of the Singaporean society, with the quality of schooling being among the best in the world. Even when it comes to higher education, Singapore is one of the leaders in Asia, as well as the world. The Singapore National University, for instance, is widely recognized to be the best in Asia, largely due to the Singapore government’s strict control over the educational programmes to comply with the world academic standards.

Study in Singapore – About Singapore

There are many benefits for international students who seek to study in Singapore, not the least of which is the possibility of obtaining residency post their studies, and working in one of the world’s most developed economies. More than 80% of the international students who applied for residency in the past decade have been able to do so, with nearly 20% becoming citizens of the city-state. The cost of studying in Singapore is largely comparable to studying abroad elsewhere. What does work in favour of the students is the fact that they can work in Singapore for up to 16 hours per week to substantially supplement their finances.

Another strong reason for international students to study in Singapore is the use of English as the primary mode of instruction. For students from India who wish to experience a multi-cultural community while pursuing world-class education, there couldn’t be a better decision than to study in Singapore.

The city-state of Singapore is a global business hub, known for one of the highest standards of living in the world. Correspondingly, the cost of living is also very high, especially compared to the Indian subcontinent, and tuition fees are also the highest in Asia. When compared to an equivalent standard of education in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia, though, the average tuition fee in Singapore would seem like a great bargain.

The currency used in Singapore is the Singapore Dollar. The exchange rate, when compared to India, is over 50 times, or in other words, you would need more than 50 Indian rupees to get 1 Singapore Dollar (exchange rate as on 25 October; SGP 1 = INR 53.08).

The average cost of tuition can vary from subject to subject, and institute to institute, and can be around anywhere from SGD 10,000 to SGD 50,000 a year. The cost of living in Singapore will cost you around SGD 10,000 a year on an average.
